Customers also appreciate the value for money. A mini fish special at £7.50 hits the sweet spot between size and price, satisfying everyone’s cravings without breaking the bank. The drinks menu, featuring coffee, tea, and more, adds to the casual dining experience that many enjoy.
While the food generally attracts praise, some diners mention portion sizes at Matlock Bath Fish Bar can feel slightly on the smaller side, especially for those used to larger servings elsewhere. Some customers express concern about needing to place just the right order to feel fully satisfied. There’s a balance needed to appreciate the portioning while still enjoying the flavor.
Another minor drawback is the occasional rush during peak hours, particularly on Saturdays around 6 PM when the restaurant reaches full capacity. The popularity means waiting may be unavoidable, and finding a seat can require some patience, especially during busy dining periods. Still, the service remains efficient, which mitigates many of these concerns.
Visited yesterday lunchtime, the staff were very friendly, the service was good and the food was great. Lovely flaky white cod in a light crispy batter and perfectly cooked chips. Best I’ve tasted in a long time!
The food is really nice worth the price you pay, £7.50 for a mini fish special which is a good size not to much but all so not to little. The service was the quickest i have seen in a fish and chip shop. Atmosphere is really warm and welcoming absolutly family friendly. Staff are polite, frendly and helpful. Would reccomend to everyon.
Nice Experience at Matlock Bath Fish Bar. Halal Fish and Chips and Peter was so welcoming and answered my question if the Fish and Chips are halal before I asked him. Went out his away to show the box with Halal certified. Put my mind at ease and the fish and chips were the best if have tasted for a long time. Best Halal option in Matlock Bath.
Great customer service very welcoming, clean facilities. Chips were the best I've had in Matlock (ever) not sure why Matlock has so many terrible chippys. Didn't have fish on this occasion but it looked great. Portions were a little on the smaller side but still plenty to fulfill my appetite, I think we have just got use to huge chip portions.🤷 Best of all the sell Rio! Stuff of god's 🙂 Will be visiting again. (And they had a onsite WC which again seems rare in Matlock, so great place to take kids)
Great value for money. Fish nicely cooked and decent portion size. Bargain at £7 50
Cheap food but was really nice, nice and clean, friendly staff
Myself, my friend and our children stopped off here for some dinner after a day at Gulliver's kingdom. One of the cheaper fish and chip shops along the stretch but that doesn't reflect on food or service. My girls were taking ages to decide what they wanted to eat, they stood there waiting very patiently whilst they made their minds up. They eventually decided on chip rolls. An order of the mini fish special, a fishcake, 3 rolls, regular chips came to £10 which I didn't think was too bad. I asked for peas and curry with my fish special and there were no issues in doing that. The chips were good, not overly greasy like some chippies. Decent amount of batter on the fish and a decent size for a mini fish deal. All in all, I would go here again for fish and chips during a day out at Matlock Bath.
